The Importance of Kenya Vision 2030 to Kenyans

Kenya’s Vision 2030 was launched on the 10th of June 2008 by President Mwai Kibaki. This marked the commencement of the development program for Kenya that was to cover the period 2008 to 2030.

The main objective of Vision 2030 is to aid in the process of transforming Kenya into a newly industrialized middle-income country that is to provide a high quality life as well as a secure environment to all the Kenyans by the year 2030.

Vision 2030 is important to Kenyans because it addresses three major pillars that affect the lives of Kenyans on a day to day basis. These three pillars are economic, social and political.

In improving the economic status of the country, Vision 2030 has a goal to improve the living standards of all the Kenyans through an economic program that touches all the regions in the country. According to the Vision 2030, the aim is to have the country’s average Gross Domestic Product growth rate of 10 percent per annum. To achieve this, there are efforts to increase the remittances from Kenyans who are abroad as well as having an increase in the foreign investments. The SME sector is key to the growth of the economy. Being aware of the important role that the SME sector plays, the government through Vision 2030 has rolled out programmes including giving the SME sector grants and loans in order to boost them. Adhering to the goals of Vision 2030, therefore, will greatly improve the economic status of Kenya through creation of jobs especially in the informal sector, raising the GDP growth, improve the tourism sector as well as building the agricultural sector which is one of the economic pillars.

Building a just as well as a cohesive society that has a social equity as well as dwelling in a clean and secure environment is one of the importance of the Vision 2030. Vision 2030 provides for a compressive social intervention that has a goal of improving the quality of life of all the Kenyans by the year 2030. In order to achieve this, key social sectors among them education and training, the health system, water and sanitation, the environment, gender, youth and vulnerable groups as well as poverty elimination have been given priority in the program and it is all for the benefit of Kenyans.

Democracy is key to the realization of economic enhancement in any given nation. Having a firm democratic political system that is strongly founded on serious issues that are based on mature politics that respects the rule of law as well as the rights and freedoms of Kenyans is of great importance to Kenyans. Visons 2030 aims at achieving this. Through Vision 2030, Kenya will be fully transformed into a country that will have equality without discrimination on race, ethnicity, religion, economic status or gender.
