Why Kenyan Youths Should Focus More on Self Employment

Many young people in this century have gone through different institutions of higher learning and they have been equipped with different skills.

It is not like in the olden days where education was meant for those who came from well off family, but currently, despite ones’ status in the society, all are entitled to learning. Surprisingly, there are very young people with as young as 24 years old and they already have master’s degrees which was never the case.

The sad part is that the higher the number of learned people in the society, the fewer the employment opportunities from both the private and public sectors. We grew up knowing that after one clears college then it was mandatory for them to be employed.

There are many young people who have skills in different fields but they have no jobs. This is so because everyone wants to be employed yet the vacancies are very few.

Others are lucky enough since they get employed but not in the field of their specialization. This makes ones’ skills go to waste since they are not in a position to utilize them fully.

Youth are afraid of being self-employed especially the first stage where they have to start from the bottom. Many of them have great ideas with them but fear to put them into action.

One thing that they have to understand is that self-employment is the best. Despite the fact that it has its own challenges but whenever it catches up then everything else will be falling into place.

Being self-employed gives one financial rewards and independence from employers. This enables one to be on charge of everything that the job entails. It gives one the freedom to make decisions on different aspects concerning the job.

Being your own employer will make one always to be on the move since its everyone’s desire to see that whatever they have grows. Therefore, one will work extra hard to get new ideas that will make them move more steps ahead from where they started from as compared to being employed and waiting for instructions on what to do.

Youth should wake up from their comfort zones and make use of their different skills and talents. The availability of technology makes everything flow smoothly since it helps in making work easy.
