Coffee farmers from central Kenya are all smiles this festive season as they are reaping big through selling their coffee beans.

A report has indicated they the farmers are currently getting Sh.22,134 for every 50 kilograms’ bag of coffee beans which has risen from Sh.21,522. The rise is due to the high quality coffee beans that are being produced from the region lately.

Reports from Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE)have stated that the rise in coffee prices from the region is a big relief to the farmers who have been struggling with low prices for a long period of time.

The reports added that that apart from the production of high quality coffee, the volume too increased from last week’s 144,000 kilograms to 150.000 kilograms this week which has been one of the factors that led to the increase in prices.

About 90 per cent of coffee that if produced in Kenya is exported globally. It has emerged that Kenyan coffee falls among the most preferred in the global market thus making it appear the top ranked globally.

This year, coffee exports showed an increased improvement by five per cent as it brought Sh.16.2 to the country which is an improvement from last year’s Sh.15.2.

This may be a motivation to coffee farmers since there is some reward from their hard work in coffee farming. Previously, some of the farmers wanted to shift from coffee farming since they faced great losses after investing too much on the plant.

Another great relief to the farmer is that a Darnish company will be putting up a coffee roasting company in Kenya by the end of next year. The project is meant to improve the local coffee business and the economy of the country since the coffee seeds that will be used will be sourced locally.
