Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore Declares Wealth

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore has today declared his wealth publicly as a way of helping fight corruption in Kenya.

He has stated that he is worth Sh277.3 million in cash, property and stocks that he has acquired from his career for more than three decades. Bob Collymore took this broad step as a way of increasing transparency in both the public and private sector

Collymore stated that his assets include a house in London valued at $530,000(Sh.54 million) and some shares in Safaricom where he is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) $180,000 (Sh.18.3 million) He said that the responsibility to turn the tide against corruption ultimately lies with each one of us.

Mr. Collymore urged all Kenyan leaders to embrace transparency within their organizations. He added that Corruption distorts markets and that it has a negative impact on society as a whole, in both the developing and already developed world.

He was part of a past initiative by the private sector that drew up a proposed anti-bribery bill, which prescribes severe penalties for those giving or receive bribes within the business community.

President Kenyatta has been under pressure to find ways of fighting graft in the country especially amongst his own key leaders that he appointed to help him run the government.
