A second gold processing plant is set to be put up in Lolgorian, Narok County by Goldplat, which is a UK miner which operates Kilimapesa Gold Ltd in Transmara.

This will be the second gold plant to be put up in the country by the company. This report was disclosed by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).

NEMA stated that the company will be producing 3,000 tonnes of ore together with 6,000 tonnes new carbon in leach gold processing plant and a new tailing facility that has been estimated to have more than 5 hectares that will be able to accommodate a maximum of 500,000 tonnes tailing.

The project by Kilimapesa Gold Ltd is meant to increase its production rate thus the decision to come up with another processing plant in the same area.

It has been said that the plant is approximated to cost at least Sh.112 million. This was according to the company’s annual report for their 2015 financial year that was released last year on 30th June.

The stated amount will be financed by a joint venture partner, according to the report.  Construction of this facility will not only be for more production purposes, but also for the expansion of the Kilimapesa plant in Transmara.

The company has had delays on the project due to lack of concreate agreements on the levy to be paid on the mining equipment to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) as the company says the amount being asked for is overstated.

Directors from Kilimapesa Gold Ltd added that the huge amounts being demanded from them by KRA may affect the running of their projects thus they are still trying to negotiate on an agreeable amount.

The location of the facility was settled upon to be near the first one so as to help save on overhead costs such as those incurred when transporting the ore for processing purposes.
