A Tribute to Our Fallen Soldiers

The continued presence of security is a key factor that leads to rapid economic growth in any given country in the world.

Investors are often attracted to invest in a country that is stable in terms of security for this assure them the security of their investments.

Kenya had enjoyed a period of relative peace until Al Shabaab struck. When the Somalia-based Al Shabaab militant group begun kidnapping tourists at the Coastal region in Kenya, the tourism sector suffered a major blow.

It was not until the government decided to venture into Somalia, the operational base of Al Shabaab that the tourism sector started to rise again.

There have been several terrorist attacks since, which have led to the loss of hundreds of lives, among them being the devastating attack at Westgate Mall in Nairobi, the chilling massacre of more than 120 students at Garissa University College and the attack on teachers who were travelling in a bus from Garissa.

There was clear proof to pursue Al Shabaab militants in the holes they live in and wherever else they were found, to ensure an end to the suffering of Kenyan families and the economy in general.

Al Shabaab, which is aligned with Al Qaeda, said it took over an African Union base with Kenyan soldiers, about 550 km (340 miles) west of Mogadishu killing KDF soldiers in one of the worst offensive against the Kenya Defense Force which was deployed in Somalia as part of the African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

The number of soldiers who have lost their lives remains unknown but according to the Cabinet Secretary for Defense, a whole unit was affected and in military terms, a unit consists of a minimum of 80 – 250 soldiers.

The Kenya Defense Force in Somalia is made up of selfless men and women who are out to ensure that Kenya is safe, the economy of Kenya projects in the right direction and that the menace of terrorism is defeated.
