Simba Corp Announces Sponsorship of Faraja’s White Water Rafting Challenge

Simba Corporation Limited has announced its Gold sponsorship of Faraja’s annual White Water Rafting Challenge 2016 which will take place on the 21^st and 22^nd May. The annual event by Faraja Cancer Support Trust and Savage Wilderness is aimed at raising funds towards the provision of complementary support services to cancer patients, their families and care givers.

The White Water Rafting Challenge started in 2014 and has grown to be one of the most exciting sporting events on the Kenyan calendar. It is also one of the most successful fundraising events hosted by Faraja.

Shaira Adamali, founding Trustee of Faraja Cancer Support Trust said, “Cancer cases are on the rise in Kenya. There are very few people out there who don’t know someone impacted by cancer. We can all help make a difference. Whether it’s starting a conversation, inspiring donations or participating in the White water rafting challenge, every little bit helps.”

The event raises funds from corporates and individuals, registering a team of five members to partake in the rafting challenge. In addition to this, the teams also fundraise and donate proceeds to Faraja. During the two-day event, teams compete and the victorious team is recognized and awarded.  The challenge also accommodates spectators who attend the event to cheer for their teams and offer moral support.

This ingenious CSR activity is not only a good cause but also a fun and healthy way to get our employees involved in the fight against cancer. We hope this campaign leads to more awareness, bigger donations, and reduced cancer morbidity cases.”

Last year, a total of Ksh3.7 million was raised from the event, from individual donations and 33 corporate teams. This year, Faraja Cancer Support Trust hopes to register at least 40 teams and targets to raise Ksh5million.

Shaira Adamali, continued, “Faraja has recently set up an endowment fund which currently has approximately Ksh14million. We hope to grow the funds to Ksh100million to be able to financially assist up to four patients monthly on a perpetual basis.”

The funds raised from WWR challenge will go towards supporting Faraja Cancer Support trust’s free complementary services to cancer patients, Craft for Cure program at Kenyatta National Children Hospital the various support group programs and the medical treatment program.

Faraja is also currently working on building a medical endowment fund to provide financial assistance to patients who cannot afford it.
