The Rains are back and so is the Sewage on the Roads of Nairobi

The rains are back. Nairobi is flooded. And everyone is worried. The rains were here some time back, we called them El Nino. They exposed the pathetic nature of those who planned the drainage system of Nairobi. People complained, those concerned appeared to have heard and when the rains disappeared, people forgot and things went back to normal.

The rains are now back and Nairobi is back to its filthy condition. The sewage is back to the roads are the drainage system is generally bad. Juja road is the most affected with the overflowing trenches and smelly heaps of litter.

As the rains take charge of Nairobi, Juja road has three unplanned dumping sites that are making the lives of those who ply along the route live a very uncomfortable life.

The first dumping site is near Pangani Girls, five meters from the footbridge just opposite the bus station. This dumping site is now overflowing toward the road and has completely engulfed the bus station. Although the County Government tries to reduce the litter once in a while, it is unable to cope up with the incoming tones of garbage each and every day. The pungent smell that rules the atmosphere of that place is strong enough to make the men and women at the morgue to stage a protest.

The second dumping site is near Mlango Kubwa, ten meters from Mamba Petrol Station. This is the biggest of them all. The heap keeps on growing each coming day and little is being done to address the situation. What makes the matters worse is that foodstuffs are sold just next to the dumping site and with the rains, the outbreak of a very contentious disease is in the making.

The third dumping site is near Karambee Stage, 50 meters from Mlango Kubwa. This one is just beside the road and in fact, it has taken part of the road. Just as that at the Mamba Petrol Station, foodstuffs are also sold here and the health of the people is at risk.

The County Government of Nairobi has to do something concerning this dumping sites or else, the economy will stall. As it often said, a healthy nation is an economically empowered nation and the same applies to the county.
