Kenyans love bottled water. Many are a times you will see Kenyans moving here and there with a bottled water in their hands quenching down their thirst. In fact, in many villages in Kenya, drinking bottled water is a sign of prestige. It keeps one in a class of those who have made it in life.

The culture to embrace the use of bottled water has led to the mushrooming of many companies producing the same. At the moment, with as little as 20 shillings, one has a bottled water. But now, do you know that that bottled water you are taking can be sure one way ticket to your early grave? Do you know that you might be taking slow poison that is slowly wasting you away?

Kenya Bureau of Standards has now raised a red flag. More than 300 companies that are making bottled water out there are unregistered and the water is unfit for human consumption. This revelation comes a few weeks after the Ministry of Health raised concerns over the increased cases of water related diseases.

In Mombasa County, many people were found to be suffering from Hepatitis A and this was blamed on unsafe drinking water. As much as water is life, in Kenya water is becoming an agent of death from unscrupulous vendors who are out to make quick cash. Kenya Bureau of Standards says that only 600 bottled water companies are registered in the country.

It is because of this that Kenyans can now verify whether the bottled water they are buying is from a company that is registered or not. This has been made possible through an SMS service of 20023 simply by sending the name of the brand. According to KBS, once the SMS is sent, it will only take three seconds for the response to be received.
