Dear Mr President,

BY Soko Directory Team · May 18, 2016 07:05 am

Greetings Mr President, I hope you are doing well. This is an open letter to you Mr President. I know you may or may not read it for am not sure if you have time to go through blogs and websites. However, am sure that one of your foot soldiers my stumble upon it and read it on your behalf.

Mr President, first allow me to start by telling you how the common man on the street from where I come from is. The common man Mr President is not at peace. Forget what those around you are busy telling you. I know they are telling you that people still love and adore you in every corner of this country but that Mr President is a lie. In fact, you will be shocked to learn that those who you think they like and worship you are just doing that because they have no other option or simply because they have been made to believe that you are the person they should like and worship whether you go right or left.

Mr President, you are the President of the Republic of Kenya and no one can dispute that fact. History has already been written that the Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta is the fourth President of the Republic of Kenya. The same history Mr President will judge you harshly if as the fourth President of this great country you failed in your capacity to lead this nation to the great place where it is supposed to be. Mr President, a great leader is that who takes people to that place, not because they want to but because they ought to be at that place.

The issue of corruption Mr President is a thorny issue in the gallant foot of this nation. The pace at which this nation was moving towards a right direction has significantly slowed down due to this monster called corruption. You yourself Mr President has declared this menace a threat to the national security. You have also openly acknowledged that corruption in at the inner circle inside the house on the hill, the Statehouse. You have always talked tough. In talking tough my dear Mr President I give you an A grade. You talk well Mr President but when it comes to working and tackling issues, you score a zero and am not shunning away from saying that.

Mr President, allow me to point out some few corruption allegations that have rocked your government. I know you will say that your work is not to fight corruption because there are independent institutions to handle such matters but Mr President, as I already told you, you are the President of the Republic of Kenya. The issue of National Youth Service is an issue that has been in the public domain for a very long time. It is said that more than 791 million shillings disappeared mysteriously from the Ministry of Devolution. You categorically placed yourself in the category of the youth of Kenya but how long will you stay silent as the same youth you claim to be part of are being robbed of what rightfully belongs to them?

What about the Eurobond Mr President? I know those around you will tell you that no money was lost but do you believe that crap? I think money was lost but people around you turned the issue into a political contest between them and the opposition and the issue just became water under the bridge. You are good Mr President but you are becoming too good, failing to lift your finger for the fear of offending those you think are close and important to you. Mr President, those are just few cases that people down here are talking about not forgetting the Youth Fund saga. Who has been taken to prison because of this?

Now Mr President, allow me to draw your attention to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission issue. I know again people around you will tell you that that is an issue that does not concern you. Maybe it does not concern you Mr President but am sure there is something you can do to cool down the situation. The drums of war are beating Mr President but unfortunately, people around you are dancing to the tune when they are supposed to be mourning. You are the Commander-in-Chief and the opposition only wants to talk. Why can’t you just talk to them? That will not reduce your title as President. You will remain to be President and let not your ego take the top of you. Open your eyes and see. Blood has started flowing, it is little but it will soon accumulate. The IEBC might be good or it might be bad but most quarters are saying that it is bad. Listen to the voice of the majority because that is what democracy is all about.

Mr President, I have a lot to tell you but I know you may not have time to read all these. I will write another letter if I hear something new but only after you have read this one.

Have a good day Mr President.

Yours sincerely,

The Man in the Streets.
