Kenya Airways Top Loser of the Day

On the first trading day of this week, TransCentury Ltd emerged the top gainer posting a 9.38 percent deviation to close the day trading at a price of 5.25 shillings per share. It was followed by Eveready East Africa Ltd which posted 8.33 percent at a price of 2.60 shillings per share. The table blow shows the top five gainers of the day at the NSE:

Among the top losers, Kenya Airways Ltd led the pack. The airline lost 8.05 percent at the price of 4.00 shillings per share. It was followed by WPP ScanGroup Ltd which lost 4.08 percent at the price of 23.50 shillings per share. See the table below for more on top five losers of the day:

Safaricom Ltd presented the most traded in shares of the day. The telecommunication company posted 7.53 million shares in terms of volume and a market capital of 679.11 billion. Equity Group Holdings Ltd presented a volume of 2.02 million. Centum Investment Company Ltd posted a volume of 706,300 while Kenya Airways Ltd and Mumias Sugar Company posted 681,600 and 545,100 respectively.

Market turnover at the bourse recorded 73.1% increase to 458.56 million shillings or 4.56million US Dollars from Friday’s trading. The NSE 20 index lost 0.04 percent to close at 3,962.95 while NASI index gained 0.02 percent to close at 145.64. Foreign investors on the other hand assumed a net buying position by accounting for 69.1 percent of total market purchases and 52.9 percent of total market sales.

Kenyan Shilling Performance

Kenyan Shilling strengthened 1.80 percent year-to-date against the US Dollar. The Kenyan Shilling also strengthened 4.28 percent year-to-date against the Sterling Pound. The Shilling however weakened 2.70 percent year-to-date against the Euro.

EAC Markets

The RSE RSI and RSE ALSI of Rwanda remained constant to close at 145.98 and 130.50 while he USE ALSI gained of Uganda 1.41 percent to close at 1,797.44 while USE LSI declined 1.14 percent to close at 385.98.
