NSE Investment Challenge Launched

Kenyan Youths in any tertiary institution of learning (universities, technical schools or any post-secondary institution of learning) will benefit from the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Investment Challenge that was launched yesterday for the purposes of educating and entertaining.

The challenge is an online simulation of live trading at the Nairobi Securities Exchange, where each participating group/individual is given a virtual startup capital to invest using NSE’s real time information for a period of 3 months. The winner is the team/individual with the highest portfolio value. One can participate as an individual or a group of maximum 4 members from the same institution.

The NSE Investment Challenge is an annual competition supported by Nairobi Securities Exchange Limited and Smart Youth Investment Limited, however over time we have gotten support from numerous corporate such as NIC Securities and Centum Limited and the investment challenge has been in existence for the past five years.

The main objectives of the initiative are to impact knowledge on investment in the securities and create a culture of saving and investing in youth. It also aims to enhance financial management and entrepreneurial skills among the Kenyan youth and create a sense of ownership, loyalty and association with the youth by reaching out to them and creating a unifying factor. The challenge also creates an avenue of educating the youth on prudent process of investment decision making and risk management.

One is required to pay a registration fee of Sh.200 via M-Pesa, followed by the registration number 222333 so as to access their account, after which they are provided with log in details of their account.

Overall Winners will be determined at the end of the 3 months’ competition period. The winning portfolios will be evaluated by an audit panel of judges drawn from NSE, Stock Broker/Investment Banks and the Betting Control & Licensing Board. Winners will be awarded with either Cash, Internships, Certificate of participation and mentorship opportunities.
