If Gaming Companies Came Together to Help the Society

The gaming industry is becoming a force to reckon with in the economic world and one whose potential, if well harnessed, can help better various sectors that contribute to the well-being of the society.

Analysts have projected that by the year 2019, the gaming industry will have contributed about 3 billion shillings to the national budget. In 2012, the industry contributed 18 million US Dollars to the economy and by 2017, the gaming industry will have contributed 33 million US Dollars to the economy of Kenya.

The gaming industry has contributed immensely to the revenue kitty, created jobs and contributed heavily to both social and infrastructural development in most areas they are established in. These revenues and contributions to the society are expected to grow boosted by the rapid improvement of technology, especially mobile phones.

Sportpesa for instance, invested 300 million shillings in the sporting industry in Kenya and the investment has paid off and is currently still going strong. The question, therefore, is, what if all gaming companies came together and joined forces towards a common purpose of uplifting the society? Instead of investing in the sporting industry alone, what if these industries came together and uplifted other sectors like the health sector? What if these companies came together and partnered with other stakeholders in building hospitals and other health facilities? What if they came together and invested in the education sector for instance? What if they joined forces in building schools for our kids and buying desks for them even as they support their talent?

If the gaming industry can come together and focus on uplifting the society, the change felt will be immense and the society will be greatly transformed. Borrowing from the great English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton, the gaming industry is a force; a force that is already on wheels and simply needs to be tapped.
