Resolution Insurance appoints Chairman and MD for Kenya

Leading general insurer, Resolution Insurance has appointed Alphan Njeru as Chairman and Alice Mwai as the Managing Director for Kenya.

Until their appointment Njeru was an external auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers while Mwai was the Chief Operating Officer of Resolution Insurance.

Peter Nduati will continue as Group CEO to be in charge of all the investment in East African region. Resolution Insurance has a presence in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and South Sudan.

“I am very delighted to be appointed to this position at this point in the journey of the business. I am committed to achieving even higher levels of customer and other stakeholders’ experience in our products, services and relationships,” Mwai said upon being contacted to comment on her appointment.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Economics from University Nairobi and is a CPA (K) holder. Alice is member of ICPAK, the Institute of Directors and the Insurance Institute of Kenya.

She has experience in operations, external and internal audit, risk and financial management as well as strategy formulation and execution gained over a period of 20 years having worked for different organizations.

On his part Alphan has been an external auditor with over 26 years’ experience of working with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) as well as a consultant in Risk and Corporate Governance matters for the last 10 years.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Nairobi and other professional qualifications that includes: CPA Kenya), Certified Public Accountant of Kenya and CPS (Kenya) Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya. He is also a member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Kenya (ICPAK) and Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK).

For the last 10 years, Alphan has concentrated his efforts on working with International funding institutions, donors and governments to promote accountability, more effective and efficient use of public resources.

He continues to direct large project management assignments in both financial management agencies as well as other public sector reform programmes.

He was a partner and director of PWC and the leader of the Advisory Business in PWC Kenya. He is also a public sector services practitioner/consultant.

He is active in development and social activities of his community making him the chairman of Mayori Secondary School in Embu for the last 10 years and the Vice Chair of the University Council for Embu University College, a constituent college of the University of Nairobi.

Mr. Alphan Njeru sits on a number of boards of organizations both in the public and private sectors. He has recently joined the Human Resource Committee of the Board of Directors of the prestigious Capital Club of Nairobi and is the current Chairman for Resolution Insurance.
