Graffiti artists got opportunity to showcase their talents at the dusitD2 Nairobi Hotel held over the weekend.

The Graffiti Art Gallery, which was organised, to celebrate the recent opening of the Absolut bar at the boutique hotel, brought together artists from across the country and giving them a platform to meet prospective clients. Graffiti is a drawing or scribbling on a flat surface, originally referred to those marks found on ancient Roman architecture.

Artists who participated at the event included Kezia Mrutu, Evans Ngure, Patricia Njeri, and Elizabeth Muroki.

Absolut bar, the first iconic vodka cocktail bar in Africa, is an initiative of the world’s leading premium vodka, Absolut and the boutique hotel, dusitD2 Nairobi.

Speaking during the event, dusitD2 Nairobi General Manager, Michael Metaxas, said Absolute and dusitD2 are committed to celebrating the many roles the arts play in the lives of the people hence the decision to work with graffiti artists who took over its popular DEN Pop-Up Art Gallery.

Metaxas said Absolute and dusitD2 will work together to promote art as the two brands are artsy in nature.

“Absolute and dusitD2 are a perfect fit as they are both artsy and we want to use our shared value for arts to promote graffiti artists by giving them a platform to showcase their artworks,” said Metaxas.

Metaxas said by offering emerging young graffiti artists an opportunity to show their work and establishing itself as a gallery to facilitate those artists, dusitD2 will be able fill a gap in the arts and cultural worlds.

ABSOLUT prides itself as the only brand associated with celebrating and appreciating artistry in its different and diverse forms, by pushing the boundaries of contemporary culture through creative collaborations.

dusitD2 Nairobi on the other hand is Dusit International’s first hotel in sub-Saharan Africa. It is a vibrant city hotel retreat where style, entertainment and art converge.

“Our love for art is evident in the hotel’s interior design, with its creative and striking artworks on display throughout public areas,” said Metaxas.
