Sunday marks 12th edition of the Tuskys Wareng Cross Country

Tuskys Supermarket Retail Chain is not just taking shops closer to people it gives back to the community through its annual Wareng Cross Country in Eldoret.

Now in its 12th year, the event is synonymous for having nurtured great Kenyan athletes.

World Cross Country champions Emily Chebet and Vivian Cheruiyot have both won the competition, while the men’s side has been won by world half marathon champion Wilson Kiprop, World Cross runner-up Moses Mosop, and World Cross team medalist Hosea Macharinyang.

Among those to have won the junior races, Leonard Komon, Mercy Cherono, Daniel Salel and Purity Cherotich Rionoripo have gone on to win World Junior Cross Country medals.

Since its inauguration in December 2006, the event has been consistent in two senior races (men’s 12 km and women’s 8 km) and two junior races (boy’s 8 km and girl’s 6 km).

2016 the Tuskys Wareng Cross Country will be marking its 12th edition with defending champions from 2015 expected to come back on (tomorrow) Sunday.

Commonwealth 10,000m silver medallist Joseph Bett and Africa 10,000m champion Alice Aprot won senior men and women titles in the previous edition.

Bett clocked 30.29.26 to claim honors while Aprot timed 26:35.9 to bag her second title in the competition.

World Youth 2000m steeplechase silver medalist Sandra Chebet who won the 6km junior women category.
