Jomo Kenyatta International Airport To Close Down for Military Training

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi will close down for military training ahead of Kenya’s 52^nd Jamuhuru Day celebrations.

Kenya Airways, the national Carrier on Wednesday announced that 9 flights will be affected during the military training.

This will have an immediate impact on flights into and out of JKIA.

“JKIA airport will be closed between 1120hrs-1220hrs.Schedule changes on: KQ264/265, KQ351. KQ401, KQ412, KQ434, KQ550, KQ654/655,” announced the Airline on its Tweeter feed.

“The military will be performing their drills in preparation for Jamhuri day. This is an aviation norm and it is for safety purposes in case they need to use the airport as an alternate,” added the airline in response to its online community.

Kenya has three other International Airports: Moi International Airport in Mombasa, Eldoret international Airport and Kisumu international Airport.

Jamhuri Day, meaning “Republic Day,” is a Kenyan national holiday falling on every December 12th that commemorates the establishment of Kenya as a republic in 1964.
