National Police Service Issues a Security Awareness Brief for Christmas

Kenya’s National Police Service has issued a security awareness brief to all Kenyans as the festive seasons knocks in this week.

“We remind the members of the public, that while it is their right to celebrate in whichever manner they deem fit, it is important to be conscious of their surroundings,” the force said in a statement.

The Police Service also says that terror threat in the country remains a reality and that terrorists might use the Christmas occasion and the crowding of Kenyans to carry out their terror activities.

“The terror threat remains a reality, and we therefore call upon members of the public to be vigilant particularly in places with high concentration of people. These include beaches, restaurants and clubs as well as places of worship,” said the statement.

The police have also said that they will work in conjunction with NTSA to arrest all the traffic offenders and promptly charge them in court.

In the month of December alone, more than 50 people have lost their lives as a results of road accidents with the worst being the loss of more than 42 lives at Karai Naivasha when a tanker rammed into more than 15 vehicles when it lost control.

Four other people lost their lives when a TSS bus heading to Mombasa lost control and landed in a ditch with four others dying near Timboroa in Eldoret when a matatu was involved in a head on with a fuel tanker.

In Mombasa, the Regional Coordinator Mr. Nelson Marwa has assured Kenyans visiting the Kenyan Coast that they have nothing to fear about their security.

“Let people enjoy themselves and for criminals, we shall be watching them. We are not going for Christmas as security personnel and you will see,” he said.
