Amina Mohamed Has a Dream and Vision for Africa

The African Union Summit will be meeting in two weeks’ time where the African heads of states are expected to elect the new chair at the helm of the African Union Commission.

Among the candidates is the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador (Dr.) Amina Mohamed who is seen by many across Africa as the embodiment of real change that will bring the commonly known ‘Dark Continent’ to a new dawn.

“My vision for the AUC is that of a Commission that will utilise and build on the current momentum to secure Africa’s rightful place in the community of Nations.” She said.

Amina Mohamed has a dream of a unified Africa that will see the young men and women of the continent reap all the benefits in terms of employment and trading relations without being hindered by the existing barriers in terms of borders and policies saying that “the free movement of goods and people will only become a reality when we build links:, across the continent; roads, railways, airports, the ports that will allow us and our goods, services and capital to move seamlessly around the Continent.”

According to Ambassador Amina, the vision of the African Union is a peaceful, prosperous and integrated Africa that will see everyone happy to associate with it.  The African Union’s Agenda 2063 clearly stipulates the pan-African dream of integrating all facets of African aspirations. So far, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) have made significant achievements towards being the building blocs for this envisaged integration.

“I envision a Continent united in both values and outlook and whose transformation is decisive and conclusive. I stand for a Commission that will work for the full realization of the objectives of a people-centered African Union that is internationally respected, financially independent, economically prosperous, closely integrated and singularly responsive to the needs and wishes of all the African people; leaving no one behind,” she added.

She says that her first task, if elected the head of AUC will be to leverage the organs of the AU towards an integrated continent and to ensure there is no gap in the implementation of Agenda 2063. He priority, she insists will be in infrastructure development, industrialization and job creation for the youth of the continent.

“My vision for the African Union Commission is simple: to be an institution that drives the African Agenda. With your support, I will to lead a team that builds an Institution that serves our people – our youth, our women, our businesses, our artists, our Nations. To do so, we need to be true to our own African values and our communities. Charity begins at home. We need to collaborate rather than compete. Collaborate economically to drive intra-African trade and politically to resolve common development and security challenges. Internationally, we have an obligation to ensure that our collective African voice is heard and strongly represented in the international arena.”
