Bank of Africa has consolidated its branches in a move that has been termed by the management as a strategy to ensure efficiency in customer service delivery in a move that will see some of its staff losing their jobs.

The lender has in the past few months been undertaking a business strategy in enhancing the experiences of its customer service as well as experience especially in the technological sector.

“Bank of Africa has announced plans to make Nairobi the Anglophone regional Information Technology (IT) hub for its operations in a move to enhance its efficiency in customer service,” read a statement from the institution.

The bank has said that for the past few years, it has witnessed a reduction in the number of people who visit their various brunches across the country for financial services as most of them have embraced the bank’s digital banking services. “This has informed the move by the bank to focus on enhancing its digital customer experience.”

“With our customers turning to digital banking, we will now embark on a move to consolidate our brunches. This process will see twelve (12) out of our forty-two (42) existing retail branches closed, subject to Central Bank of Kenya approval. We have requested the Central Bank of Kenya for approval of the process and we await their feedback. Upon receipt of the approval, we will notify our customers in the affected branches so to enable a seamless transition of their banking relationship,” said the bank.

According to the lender, the affected branches include those in Nairobi region (Githurai, Gikombaa, Monrovia, Gateway, South B, Outer Ring Road, Likoni Road BOA Direct and Thika Road BOA Direct) with other regions being Nanyuki, Embu, Kitale and Digo Road Branch in Mombasa.

The move by Bank of Africa is likely to see some employees lose their jobs with the lender saying that this cannot be avoided. “In the process, some staff redundancies will inevitably occur,” read the statement from the bank.
