If You Don’t Register as a Voter, this is what you will be Doing

BY Juma · February 7, 2017 11:02 am

Low turnout in terms of voter registration continue to be witnessed across the country even as the voter registration exercise organized by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission moves towards the end on 14th February 2017.

Many Kenyans seem to be disinterested in registering as voters and many political quarters have failed to understand the reasons behind this apathy. The largest number of those who are shunning away from registering as voters are the youth and this paints a rather dark picture of the change we have been dreaming about as a nation.

Many people think that by not voting in an election, they don’t vote. No. there is nothing like not voting. You cast your vote either by voting or not voting. If you vote, you have a say in determining the kind of person you would like rule over you as well as taking care of your resources. If you don’t vote, you give a chance to others to decide for you who should lead and take care of your resources.

For failing to register as a voter and eventually not taking part in an election, you stand to get those pathetic leaders, thieves and looters of the economy, one that you have always loathed. You cannot just refuse to register as a voter because you hate a certain politician. That is not helping at all. You will still end up with the same corrupt leaders. Maybe that one vote that you would have taken would have helped to put the right leader on that position.

The truth is that you cultivate corruption, dictatorship, deteriorating economy and all manner of filthy leadership by not voting. Let us stop the notion that one vote does not matter. Who told you that it does not matter? Come out and register as a voter and stand up for the leader you deserve.
