Rights activists who fall under the National Integrity Alliance launched a “Red Card” campaign saying that some politicians fall short of the ethical standards set by chapter six of the National Constitution.

The Civil Society Groups released the names of political aspirants they say are unfit to hold public office.

Below are some of the politicians that the group gave red cards to:

> Anne Waiguru, Kirinyaga Governor Jubilee nominee

> Alfred Mutua (Machakos)

> Evans Kidero (Nairobi)

> Hassan Joho (Mombasa)

> Keneth Lusaka (Bugoma)

> Okoth Obado (Migori)

> Mwangi Wa Iria (Muranga)

> Cyprian Awiti (Homabay).

> Gladys Boss Shollei

> Elizabeth Ongoro,

> George Ayako,

> Mike Sonko

> Mathew Lempurkel,

> Moses Luria,

> Oscar Kipchumba Sudi,

> Samwel Kazungu Kambi

> Stephen Murathi Kambi

> Waititu Ferdinand,

> Alfred Keter.

According to the Rights Activists, the above list contains people who have unresolved issues without regards to whether the individual is guilty or not.

“The following are some of the guides that we used in coming up with the list includes: list of shame read by the president in 2015, auditors general’s reports, Article ten in the constitution of Kenya, leadership and integrity act, active cases, moral and ethical requirements referred to under article 99 (1b), 193 1b, 201, 232, anti-corruption and economic act, public finance management act, procurement and disposal act, as well as the election offences act “ said the Rights activist representative prior to reading the list at Lillian Towers in Nairobi.

He added that the list of 20 individuals is not conclusive of all the people the group believes fall short of the requirement of chapter six. But it includes the list of individuals who have been identified for grant scale corruption, unethical behavior or contact unbecoming of a leader under the law; specifically they have been associated with grand corruption, multiple corruption cases, and abuse of office, threatening of national cohesion through discriminatory and all violent behavior.

“These are people who have not shown respect for the rule of law, and they do not qualify in our view to be cleared to vie for office”, said the group.
