Chandarana employees to receive 10pc pay increase

A total of 761 employees working under the Chandarana Group of Supermarkets are set to enjoy a 10 percent pay rise from the second  phase of the firm’s’ collective bargaining agreement (CBA) signed by the Kenya Union of Commercial, Food and Allied Workers  last week.

Among the employees who will be taking home increased salaries include cashiers and heavy commercial vehicle drivers whose wages will be 29,288 shillings every month exclusive of their house allowances which will total up to 17 percent of the basic salary.

The second phase of a two-year CBA, backdated to March this year, will see the highest paid employees comprising cashiers and heavy commercial vehicle drivers earn Sh29,288 every month exclusive of house allowance.

According to the signed agreement, every employee whose employment was confirmed by the end of February 2017 shall be getting a wage increase of nine percent that will remain effective for the two years from the time of implementation.

According to the new deal, category five employees made up of salesmen and crawler tractor drivers will earn 24,342 shillings as general clerks, telephone operators, receptionist and storekeeper receive 20,027 shillings.

Shop assistants, copy-typists and light duty car drivers will earn 17,565 shillings as general laborers, cleaners and messengers receive 13,027 shillings every month. Night shift meal allowance will rise to 120 shillings up from 100 shillings as those who work overtime will be paid at 1.5 times the normal hourly rate.

Safari allowance per employee a day will be 1,765 shillings, breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation inclusive. Employees on Chandarana’s payroll will also be entitled to an annual paid sabbatical of 26 days and a leave travelling allowance of 3,300 shillings.
