The average cost of petroleum products increased slightly after the Energy Regulatory
Commission (ERC) on Monday announced monthly capping for the next 30 days.

The pump prices of diesel and kerosene increased by Sh1.39 and Sh0.86 respectively.

Therefore, motorists will now pay Sh96.08 per litre of super petrol in Nairobi while the cost of diesel and kerosene will dip to Sh85.86 and Sh63.42 per litre respectively.

According to ERC, Super petrol in Nairobi will from August 15th to September 14th 2017 cost 96.08 shillings per litre at the pump from 97.10 shillings, while diesel will cost higher at 85.86 shillings from 84.46 shillings.

ERC attributed the decrease and increase in the fuel to the cost of imported refined petroleum products.

“While ensuring reasonable prices to consumer, the actual pipeline factor has been retained at 0.2 per cent, which is a reduction from the previous factor which was 0.25 per cent,” ERC Acting Director Robert Oimeke said in a statement.

Due to the retained factor, the savings per litre on the account of the reduced pipeline will be 0.19 shillings for super petrol, 0.16 shillings for diesel and 0.11 shillings for kerosene

According to the regulator, the importation cost of super petrol decreased by 3.10 per cent from 55, 423 shillings per tonne in June 2017 to 54, 157 shillings per tonne as at July 2017.

Diesel increased by 4.03 percent to 49, 051 shillings from 47, 149 shillings while kerosene increased by 2.48 per cent from 49, 717 shillings to 50, 948 shillings per tonne.
