Review of the New Samsung QLED technology

Samsung Electronics launched the QLED TV in Kenya, a technology believed to be the answer to smart TV not only in the country but the world.

For Samsung, QLED TV means the TV uses Quantum dots to produce images. The Quantum Dots produce limitless colors at any brightness level. This ability meets and exceeds any conventional TV technology. It also utilizes the powerful Quantum Dot light to maximize the contrast spectrum to fully express light and shadow. QLED TVs, therefore, show crisp and clear images regardless of the room’s brightness.

A major advantage of Samsung’s New Metal Quantum dot technology is that it is not only coated four times to protect from outside elements, it is made of an inorganic material ensuring a longer life span. This means that QLED TV gives you consistent color expression throughout its long lifespan. This is unlike other conventional TVs which use organic material, losing color expression as they age

If you were to consider a number of colors that can be displayed physically in peak brightness, QLED TV is able to achieve 100 percent color volume thereby producing an incredible range of colors. Since the size of the Quantum dot determines the color it produces, QLED TVs are able to separately depict accurate red, green and blue. This is achieved through a unique combination of Quantum Dot light and pure RGB color filter. Yet with other conventional TVs, when the image is too bright, the percentage of the colors in the color volume produced by the TV drops significantly. The colors get washed out and can only express around 70 percent color volume, making the picture quality drop too.

QLED TV’s use of HDR, or High-Dynamic Range, to achieve a brightness level between HDR 1500 to HDR 2000 is another reason why the QLED TV remains superior in technology. All of the details from a movie scene or an image are detected by HDR and revealed by the Quantum Dot light. This gives levels of brightness similar to the real world and because it matches what our eyes see, it is optimized for our viewing comfort. But even with a much higher level of brightness, QLED TV expresses an incredible amount of detail unlike conventional TVs whose brightness levels are only half of what QLED TV can achieve, and as a result, details get lost.

When it comes to viewing angle, QLED delivers consistent color and quality no matter where the viewer is sitting. Other conventional TVs have a weak backlight which means the light is not evenly distributed to the edges of the screen. Colors lose their intensity and hence get distorted. Samsung QLED TVs have backlight 3 times brighter than OLED TVs and 2 times brighter than SUHD TVs thanks to the intense Quantum Dot light.

Lastly, burn-in is a differentiating factor of QLED TV and other TVs. Image retention is a phenomenon that occurs when a static image gets imprinted on a TV screen after being displayed for an extended period. When this imprint becomes permanent, it is then referred to as “burn-in”. It is very disappointing when your TV experience is marred because of it. Because Quantum Dots in QLED TVs are inorganic material they have little risk of burn-in, even at maximum brightness. A TV that doesn’t burn in will offer a long period of enjoyment.

These amongst many other factors, go to show that QLED TV offers superior technology in the 21st century.
