IEBC Urged to Conclude Elections Before Start of National Examinations

The Cabinet Secretary of Education Dr. Fred Matiang’i has requested the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conclude the election process by October 17th, 2017 to avoid interrupting the examinations schedule.

The request comes as a result of the forthcoming National examinations, both Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) that have been set to start on 31st October 2017.

According to the exams timetable released on Monday by the Ministry of Education, KCPE will begin on Tuesday 31st October 2017 and End on Thursday, 2nd November 2017. Rehearsals for KCPE are set to take place on 30th October 2017.

On the other hand, KCSE will kick off on Monday, 6th November 2017 and end on Wednesday 29th November, with rehearsals being held on Friday, 3rd November 2017.

KCSE candidates will start sitting for some of their practical examinations as early as October, 23rd 2017.

The Ministry has stated that it has finalized all the preparations for both KCPE and KCSE including setting, printing, and packaging of the examination papers.

This year, a total of 1,003,556 candidates were registered for the KCPE while 615,773 are set to sit for KCSE. There will be 28,566 examination centers for the KCPE and 9,350 for KCSE candidates. A total of 6,037 KCPE and 7,001 KCSE private candidates also registered this year.
