Kenyan Boy Child: What Kenyans are talking about him online

BY Juma · December 21, 2017 07:12 am

Ever since Dr. Fred Matiang’i, the Cabinet Secretary for Education took over the helm of the education, the subject has been about the boy child.

It appears the boy child has not been doing so well when it comes to national examinations; Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Kenyans have taken to social media to express their views about the boy child as far as national examinations are concerned. Some are showing concern, some are making fun while some are furious that the information being peddled about the boy child being ‘hammered’ by the girl child during national examinations are not true.

“I want to submit to all of us that the Kenyan media is the worst either in the world, Southern Sahara or Northern Limpopo. Analyzing 2017 KCSE results, from Grade A to C plain, the boy child has ruthlessly dealt with the girl child. In fact, without any fear of contradiction, the girl child only beat the boy child squarely in grades D, D-, and E. Now goes buy any local dailies, you meet screaming headlines.. oooh the girl child outshines the boy child… Nonsense. Let our media give us a logical analysis. Hapana kuangalia top ten pekee na mnaanza kupotosha umma. Sienji kabisa,” said Mathews Sitati, a High School teacher at Nzoia Friends Secondary School on his Facebook page.

“The boy child cannot multi-task, he is largely concentrating on betting and riding motorbikes, accept the results and move on,” said Collins Wakhungu, also on Facebook.

Martha Marion wa Mayeku went ahead and even became more hilarious in describing the boy child. This is what she posted:

“TOP KCPE – Girlchild

Top KCSE – Girlchild

Sportpesa 221 Million winner – Boychild

KCB Thika 50 million shillings bank robbery – Boychild

Head of State Commendation for eating githeri during voting – Boy child”

Franklin Ches, on Twitter, lamented in one sentence, “It is official, and the boy child has fallen!”

Is the boy child under siege? Is the boy child performing dismally in national exams? What can be done to ‘redeem’ the boy child?
