Top 10 Kenyan Schools in the 2017 KCSE Results

The 2017 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results have been released, generating mixed reactions.
According to the results, a number of schools made it to the top 10 best performing while others that ranked in the 2016 did not manage to maintain positions.
While releasing the results, the Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i disclosed that Pangani Girls High School, which produced the best Student overall was the most improved school in performance
Little-known school, Sing’ore Girls High School from Elgeyo Marakwet puzzled many by emerging top most in overall across the country.
Sing’ore Girls beat more decorated national schools to secure the top position. The extra-county school, located in the remote part of the county, recorded its best performance ever although it has been posting good results over the years.
The school emerged top countrywide with a mean score of 69.9 points.
Light Academy in Mombasa came second with 69.1 points, followed by Alliance Girls’ School (68.6 points), Kenya High School (68.2 points) and Loreto Girls Limuru (68.1 points).
Kisima Mixed Secondary School also managed to beat the odds and took the sixth position with 67.8 points, followed by Moi Girls High School Eldoret with 67.5 points, Kapsabet Boys with 67.4 points, Alliance High School with 67.3 points while Pangani Girls High School secured the tenth position with 66.2 points.

- Light Academy-Mombasa (69.1 points)
- Alliance Girls-Kiambu (68.7 points)
- Kenya High – Nairobi (68.2 points)
- Loreto Girls –Limuru (68.1 points)
- Kisima Mixed Secondary School – Nyandarua (67.8 points)
- Moi Girls High School- Eldoret (67.5 point)
- Kapsabet Boys- Nandi (67.4 points)
- Alliance High School- Kiambu (67.3 points)
- Pangani Girls- Nairobi (66.2 points)
A list compiled by Soko Directory Investments and cross-checked with results from top schools shows that four of the 2016 top KCSE examination schools were knocked out from the list in the 2017 rankings.
Top 10 Schools in 2016:
- Alliance Girls High School – Kiambu
- Kenya High School – Nairobi
- Mang’u High School – Kiambu
- Kisima Mixed – Nyandarua
- Karima Girls High School
- Moi Tea High School- Kericho
- Light Academy – Mombasa
- Moi Girls High School Kabarak
Schools that were among the top 10 in 2016 but disappeared from the top league included Mang’u High School which held the third position in 2016, Karima Girls which was position five, Moi Tea Girls that was position six and Moi Girls High School Kabarak which was position eight.
According to Dr. Fred Matiang’i, there has been a decline in the number of students who have qualified to join the university.
In this year’s performance, the number of grade A’s in the KCSE 2017 results has increased from to 142 compared to 141 in 2016.
