Technology began as a joke. It was like a small fire that started to spread, grew bigger and now consuming the whole world with the intensity of a roaring fire consuming a dry bush in a desert.

The dream of making the world a global village has long been achieved, thanks to technology. At the moment, technology is threatening to take over almost everything, from the blue-collar jobs and now to the much coveted white-collar jobs.

How will the world look like in terms of technology in the next 10 years? Here are eleven techs to watch in the next decade:

1. Artificial Intelligence

This is also known as Machine Intelligence. It is displayed by machines, in contrast with the natural intelligence displayed by humans and other animals. Any device that perceives and detects its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of success at some goal. This is where a machine mimics cognitive functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as learning and problem-solving. The coming of the computer, mobile phone and now apps are set to change the world of intelligence and the world needs to be worried as more and more people are likely to render jobless.

2. IoT

The IoT is also known as the Internet of Things. This is the network of physical things and devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators and network connectivity which enable these objects to connect and exchange data.

3. Blockchain

A blockchain was originally known as block chain. This is a continuously growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptography. 4. 3D Printing

3D printing is also known as additive manufacturing. It is the process used to create a three-dimensional object in which material is joined or solidified under computer control to create an object, with the material being added together.

The mobile is taking over the world by storm. With the coming of smartphones on board, the world is still growing. New phones are still coming up and the world should expect more of new and complicated models in the near future.

Data is the next big thing. The next big player in the internet world is the data provider. According to the Internet World Stats, Africa accounts for 10 percent of internet users in the world with the rest of the world bagging 90 percent. The internet penetration in Africa as at June 2017 stood at 31.2 percent with 388,376,491 estimated internet users.

An autonomous car is also known as the driverless car, self-driving, robotic car, autos and unmanned ground vehicle. It is a vehicle that is capable of sensing its environment and navigating without human input. Most autonomous cars are on trial around the world.

8. Smart Robotics

A smart robot is an artificial intelligence (AI) system that can learn from its environment and its experience and build on its capabilities based on that knowledge. They can collaborate with humans, working along-side them and learning from their behavior.

9. Mixed Reality VR/AR

Mixed Reality sometimes referred to as hybrid reality. It is the merging of real and virtual worlds to produce new environments and visualizations where physical and digital objects co-exist and interact in real time.

10. Wireless Power

Wireless power also known as wireless power transfer, wireless energy transmission or electromagnetic power transfer is the transmission of electric energy without wires.

11. Quantum Computing

Quantum computing is computing using quantum-mechanical phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement. The computing is done by quantum computers.
