Lufthansa Group Hits an all-time high with 130 Million Passengers

Lufthansa Group has hit an all-time high by flying more than 130 million passengers by the end of December 2017 according to a statement released by the airline.

In December 2017, Lufthansa Group welcomed around 9.3 million passengers, an increase by 19.9 percent compared to the previous year.

The available seat kilometers for the airline increased by 14.2 percent over the previous year with the sales going up by 15.9 percent.

The seat load factor improved accordingly, rising 1.1 percentage points compared to December 2016 to 78.9 percent.

In total, the airlines of the Lufthansa Group welcomed around 130 million passengers on board their aircraft in 2017 and set with this number a new passenger record. The seat load factor on the 1.1 million flights last year remained on a record course of 80.9 percent.

Cargo capacity increased 6.6 percent year-on-year, while cargo sales were up 5.8 percent in revenue ton-kilometer terms. As a result, the Cargo load factor decreased 0.5 percentage points in December.

Closer home, Kenya Airways is set to begin direct flights from Nairobi to New York on the 28^th of October 2018 in a move that will see travelers flying daily to and from Nairobi to New York.

According to the Kenya Airways, closer to 40 percent of tourists who visited Kenya last year came from the United States and were hopeful that the new venture will open more goodies for the airline which is at the top of its recovery program.

The new Nairobi – New York route will create more than 100 direct jobs according to the airlines CEO Sebastian Mikosz with Kenya’s economy set to benefit directly from the same.

The booking for the tickets commenced officially on Thursday with the maiden trip on 28^th of October 2018.
