The week was dominated by major events around the world that will go down in books of history.

In a span of one week, a wave of change seemed to be sweeping across Africa with notable big men moving out of big offices with other big men set to replace them.

During the week, President Jacob Zuma of South Africa resigned as President. This followed pressure from his own political party, ANC, to have him leave power. Zuma had been at the helm of South Africa for nine years. He had initially refused calls to have him step down saying that he needed at least 3 to 6 months in order to leave. His party had threatened to present a vote of no confidence against in him in parliament.

During the week, Cyril Ramaphosa was appointed the president of South Africa. Ramaphosa had replaced Jacob Zuma as the leader of ANC in December and has been said to be the force behind Zuma’s exit.

As the week went on, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Desalegn surprised many, including his own part when he rendered in his resignation letter as the PM and the head of the ruling party. There have been numerous protests in Ethiopia with hundreds of people having being killed in the process.

Zimbabwe’s long-serving opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai died during the week. Tsvangirai is credited as the only opposition leader in Zimbabwe who went against the veteran Robert Mugabe who had ruled the country since its independence in 1980.

The week also witnessed 17 high school students being shot dead in Florida in the United States of America. The 17 were shot by their colleague who is 19 years.
