Kenya Ranked 8th Most Dangerous Tourist Destination in the World

Kenya has been ranked as the 8th most dangerous country in the world for tourists to visit by the recently released Travel and Tourism Report by the World Economic Forum which analyzed the travel and tourism sector in 136 countries.

The WEF classified how safe the countries on the list are based on tourism and the safety of those visiting. The ranking was built on the scope at which the country exposes tourists as well as businesses to security risks in relation to serious harm that could happen to people; violence and terrorism. The classification excluded lists of petty crimes from the countries. They were not taken into account.

The top ten list of countries unfit for tourists in ascending order were:

  1. Colombia
  2. Yemen
  3. El Salvador
  4. Pakistan
  5. Nigeria
  6. Venezuela
  7. Egypt
  8. Kenya
  9. Honduras
  10. Ukraine

According to the report, “While many terrorist attacks occur outside of Nairobi, the threat of terrorism is still high in the city. Grenades, shootings, and stabbings are common forms of attacks.”

Perhaps the reason why countries like South Sudan, Syria, Iraq, and others make no appearance on the list is that they have their economies wiped out by the ravaging war.

During the release of the report last month, the founder of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab, stated that the globe had undergone a decade fall in openness as evidenced by a plethora of factors, which was harmful to the world’s growth and the ability to implement proper innovations at all the development stages.

“Declining openness in the global economy is harming competitiveness and making it harder for leaders to drive sustainable, inclusive growth,” he said.

Although the country has been termed a risky destination for tourists, Kenya is still famous for its beautiful beaches, national reserves, and safari parks.
