Finger Millet More Expensive in Kisumu Compared to Other Towns

Households in Kisumu have to dig deeper into their pockets to be able to enjoy the delicacies prepared from Finger Millet compared to other parts of the country.

This is because Kisumu is having the highest market price for a 90-kilogram bag of Finger Millet which is being sold at 9,600 while Kitale has the lowest price of 5,400 shillings for the same 90-kilogram bag.

A 90-kilogram bag of Dry Maize, on the other hand, is retailing as follows in selected towns: 3,600 shillings in Kisumu, 3,100 shillings in Kitui, 2,800 shillings in Nairobi, 2,600 shillings in Busia, 2,500 shillings in Mombasa and Nakuru respectively, 2,400 shillings in Eldoret, and 2,100 shillings in Kitale.

The table below gives a summary of market prices for other cereals in the market:

A 90-kilogram bag of Rosecoco Beans was retailing as follows: 8,800 shillings in Kisumu, 8,100 shillings in Eldoret, 7,200 shillings in Nairobi, Nakuru and Kitui respectively, and 5,500 shillings in Kitale.

A 110-kilogram bag of Groundnuts is being sold with the following market prices in selected towns across the country: 15,300 shillings in Kitae, 12,150 shillings in Eldoret, 11,550 shillings in Mombasa, 11,200 shillings in Nairobi, 11,000 shillings in Nakuru, 10,800 shillings in Kitui and 10,000 shillings in Kisumu.

A 90-kilogram bag of Njahi is being sold highest in Kitui at 11,700 shillings and lowest on Nakuru at 5,400 shillings as shown in the table below:
