You Can Now Store Payment Info and Transact Directly Using Instagram

Instagram on May 3 confirmed that users can now store all their payment information and buy products directly using the app.

The payment feature will be accessible through its settings. It will appear under the Settings in the application and it gives you an option to add debit or credit card information as well as to track previous payments. You can also set a pin for better and extra security.

Even before this improved feature, Instagram would let you shop and purchase items at a retailer’s online site on Instagram. It would open a separate pop-out page that would follow the normal online checkout processes.

Now the process is simple. Users can skip the extra steps and purchase the item all from the Instagram post. The move is in an effort to support businesses and advertising on the photo-sharing social platform.

The Facebook-owned Instagram has been building out its ad model to allow businesses and brands to advertise products seamlessly in a user’s content stream.

At the moment, the feature is only available for a select group of partners, including online restaurant reservation site Resy, according to an Instagram spokesperson. It’s part of an update announced last year to allow for appointment booking in the app.

Instagram’s rival Snap did a similar update in recent weeks. It leveraged its AR capabilities with a new feature called Shoppable that lets users shop for promoted products without leaving the app.
