Emirates Registers Strong Growth Despite Global Economic Challenges

Emirates continues to register strong growth despite regional and global economic challenges.

According to Emirates Regional Manager for East Africa, Hendrik du Preez, the airline reviews their operations across their networks from time to time to be sure they are staying agile.

“We scale our operations to meet demand, Kenya is no different. We continue to invest in initiatives and infrastructure that will secure our future success,” said Mr. du Preez.

While Emirates’ business strategy is to grow organically, the airline constantly considers a wide range of commercial opportunities and pursues strategic cooperation and innovations that make commercial sense and improve customer comfort and convenience.

“Previously in Kenya, for instance, all bookings made on the Emirates website required customers to either make online payments via debit or credit card or physically visit the Emirates office. However, Emirates has introduced a mobile money payment option, which allows customers to pay through their mobile money wallet and immediately receive their tickets,” Mr. du Preez added.

Emirates SkyCargo recorded a strong performance globally and continues to play an integral role in the company’s expanding operations, and contributes 14 percent of the airline’s total transport revenue.

“Nairobi is one of our most important freighter stations in the region evidenced by the fact that we operate daily freighter flights to transport flower exports from the region. Our Boeing 777 freighters can carry up to 100 tonnes of cargo allowing uplift of a large volume of cargo. Heavy and outsized objects are also easily transported on our freighters,” said Mr. Saeed Abdulla. Emirates Cargo Manager for East Africa.

In the 2017-18 financial year, Emirates SkyCargo carried 27,000 tons of Fresh flowers from Kenya mainly to Amsterdam – the hub of the global floriculture market. Aside from flowers, other products such as fresh vegetables, green beans, fruits, meat, and fish are also exported from East Africa

Additional to freighters Emirates also operates 14 passenger flights a week out of Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International airport.
