President Uhuru has returned to the country after his official visit to the US and is expected to host Theresa May, the United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister, on Thursday.

Theresa May’s visit to the country will be a first for a UK Prime Minister in the last 30 years after Margaret Thatcher’s visit to the then President Daniel Moi in 1988 since David Cameron’s visit flopped in 2016 after he resigned over the Brexit vote.

Theresa May’s visit will largely include talks on improving the fight against terrorism in the Country and region at large.

“I am proud to be leading this ambitious trip to Africa and to become the first UK Prime Minister in over 30 years to visit Kenya,” said the UK Prime Minister.

The visit will strengthen the partnership between Kenya and UK especially on security and the war against corruption according to the UK ambassador to Kenya, Nic Hailey, in a tweet that read;

“Delighted that UK Prime Minister Theresa May will be in Kenya this week. The visit will deliver investment, strengthen UK-Kenya partnerships in security and development and support the crucial fight against corruption. Looking forward!”

UK’s Government site posted that the leaders would also hold talks on the British soldiers that train in Kenya and how the African region can gain from skills required to recognize and destroy improvised explosives in the fight against terrorism especially the Alshabaab which has killed a great number of Kenya’s security personnel.

The visit, according to the website, will focus on a renewed partnership between the UK and Africa which will seek to maximize on shared opportunities.

“As we prepare to leave the European Union, now is the time for the UK to deepen and strengthen its global partnerships. This week I am looking forward to discussing how we can do that alongside Africa to help deliver important investment and jobs as well as continue to work together to maintain stability and security,” PM May informed.

May, who began her trip in Cape Town in South Africa where she met President Cyril Ramaphosa, is also expected to visit Nigeria, in what she terms as an ambitious trip to Africa, as the UK moves towards Brexit.

Theresa May’s delegation will be made up of 29 representatives from the UK business with half of them being Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) from across the UK, a lesson we should probably learn in the members that comprise the President’s delegation.
