Commodity Prices: Vegetables Dominate The Markets With Lower Prices

Markets across the country have been flooded with Green leafy Sukumawiki which has resulted in a decline in prices as compared to months ago when the prices were slightly higher.

A market survey from selected towns across the country showed that a 50-kilogram bag of Sukumawiki is retailing at an average market price of 1,379 shilling.

Here is the price of 50-kilogram bag of Sukumawiki: 2,300 shillings in Kisumu, 1,800 shillings in Eldoret, 1,500 shillings in Isiolo, 1,350 shillings in Nairobi, 1,100 shillings in Mombasa, 1,000 shillings in Kitale, and 600 shillings in Nakuru.

A 126-kilogram bag of cabbages, on the other hand, is being sold at 3,000 shillings in Mombasa, 2,400 shillings in Eldoret, 1,800 shillings in Kitale, 1,650 shillings in Nairobi, 1,500 shillings in Kisumu and 1,200 shillings in Nakuru and Isiolo respectively.

The table below gives a summary of market prices in selected towns across the country:

A 64-kilogram grate of Tomato is retailing at an average market price of 3,689 shillings across the country with Kisumu having the highest price of 6,000 shillings while Mombasa has the lowest market price of 2.100 shillings.

A 142-kilogram bag of Spring onions is being sold as follows: 3,300 shillings in Mombasa, 3,000 shillings in Nakuru and Kitale respectively, 2,500 shillings in Nairobi, 2,400 shillings in Kisumu, and 1,400 shillings in Eldoret.
