Court Declares Finance Bill 2018 Illegal

The debate surrounding the controversial Finance Bill 2018 just took a new turn on Wednesday after the court declared it illegal.

In a case filed by activist Okiya Omtatah, Justice Wilfrida Okwany ruled that Treasury CS Henry Rotich did not follow procedure when he presented the Finance Bill, 2018.

The Judge also said that there was no public participation on the bill before it was implemented and added that the Provision Collection of Taxes and Duties 2018 is unconstitutional.
