Eliud Kipchoge to Pocket Over 35 Million Shillings

At 33 years, Eliud Kipchoge has the World saying his name and terming him as the ‘greatest marathon runner of all time, ‘after he led Kenya’s team in recording great performance at the 2018 Berlin Marathon.

Kipchoge ran a record time of 2:01:39 to beat Dennis Kimetto’s world record of 2:02:57 in Berlin 2014 marathon.

Eliud Kipchoge, the newest World Marathon Record holder in town, will reap big after breaking the world record.25 million shillings as winning bonuses alone will add to 10 million shillings from Berlin Marathon organizers which will include around 4.7 million shillings as the winner’s prize and around 5.9 million shillings for breaking the world record.

The marathon runner will also receive a contractual bonus from NIKE, an American company. It is probably time we start including running marathons as one of the highest paying jobs in the country.

As the Isuzu East Africa ambassador, Kipchoge will also drive away in a new 2016 Luxury version of the Isuzu D-Max worth 5.9 million shillings.

Isuzu EA has expressed its delight in the win saying that were ecstatic to hand Kipchoge the Isuzu luxury Double Cab Pick-up through its communication manager, Duncan Muhindi

“Being our ambassador, we promised to reward him with the car, if he breaks the world record. The vehicle is valued at Sh5.9 million,” said Muhindi.

This was not Kipchoge’s first win, though it was his greatest. He has participated in 11 marathons winning 10 of them and finishing second in one.

Kipchoge has won the London Marathon thrice and holds the record for each marathon.

Gladys Cherono too did not disappoint as she completed an excellent Kenyan double with a winning time record of 2:18:10 which set a new women’s record at Berlin.

City of Champions, Iten, was at this time lit in excitement and pride as Kipchoge ran past the finish line, Kenya was proud, Iten residents were beaming and Kipchoge, well,  the marathon runner is smiling all the way to the bank and it is well deserved!
