Here are 10 Most Populous Countries in The World

The world has approximately 7.6 billion people. What many people don’t know is that two countries in the world account for more than two billion of the world’s population.

China is the most populous nation in the world with approximately 1.4 billion people. The ballooning population in China forced the government, under Deng Xiaoping, to enact the one-child policy in 1979. Under this policy that affected couples mainly living in town, a family was only supposed to have one child with a subsequent one attracting fines, forced abortions and sterilization of women.

India is the second most populous country in the world with approximately 1.33 billion people followed by the United States of America that has approximately 328 million people.

Indonesia and Brazil are fourth and fifth most populous countries in the world with 265 and 209 million people respectively.

In Africa, Nigeria is the most populous country and the seventh in the world. The country has approximately 194 million people. The second most populated country in Africa is Egypt with an estimated population of 97 million people followed by Ethiopia with approximately 94 million people. (Currently, the population in Ethiopia is estimated to be at 100 million).

The Democratic Republic of Congo is the fourth most populous country in Africa with at least 89 million people with the government trying hard to have families embrace family planning methods.

Other most populous countries in the world include Mexico at position 11 with an estimated population of 125 million followed by the Philippines with an estimated 107 million people. Vietnam has 95 million people while Germany and Iran have 83 and 81 million people respectively.

Turkey, Thailand, and France have approximately 80, 69 and 67 million people respectively. Closer home, Kenya currently has at least 51 million people, 4 million lower than Tanzania who’s President, John Pombe Magufuli, called on women to give birth to more children and shun using contraceptives.
