10 People Who Have Claimed To Be The MESSIAH

Religion has often been used by con artists who prey on targets that are easy to brainwash and con them of their hard earned money.
There have been ludicrous beliefs and practices that are not only ignorant but also criminal. Stories of self-proclaimed prophets who claim to heal and cult-like self-made messiahs with some of the most bizarre habits and regulations for their ‘followers’ only attest to the level of lack of discernment in these followers or outright ignorance.
I have no problem with religion, mine is with the people that will go to unimaginable extents to brainwash people, break families, and create zombies in the name of ‘followers’ just to gain power and wealth.
We all know that the Bible says nobody knows the day or time of Christ’s coming, with the list of people who have claimed to be Christ; it will sure be difficult to tell when the original Christ comes or, well, whether He already came. Below is a list of men who have made profits through the claim to be the Messiah.
- Moses Hlongwane
Moses, a South African man, publicly declared, in the year 2013, on the eNews Channel Africa that he was a black reincarnation of Jesus Christ himself. Hlongwane also claimed that he was immortal and was “getting ready” to perform miracles such as curing the lame, blind and would even resurrect the dead by “opening the graves.”
Despite his claims being outrageous for many of us Hlongwane had already succeeded in converting several people to become his followers. One of Moses’ followers is 84-year-old Paul Sibiya who gave up his entire pension as a month’s offering.
Moses’ followers gave up their entire possession to him in form of offering while abandoning their families. Sibiya left his wife, Alfin, destitute to be near their “god.” Allegedly, Hlongwane uses the money and wealth to spread his own version of the “Gospel” to the world.
His followers range from the elderly to teenagers as young as 14 years of age who recognize Hlongwane as the true reincarnation of Jesus Christ and hence their true “King of kings and Lord of lords.”
- Inri Cristo
66 year old, Inri Cristo, not only claims to be the Messiah but dresses quite similar to the character Jesus Christ in Christian movies. Inri Cristo lives in a farmland outside of Brasilia claiming it to be the New Jerusalem. He is branded by many people as crazy but succeeded to draw hundreds of followers across the world with a majority of them being young beautiful women who are devoted to serving him.
Inri alleges that God spoke to him in 1979 saying to him that he was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. He has been to 27 countries, since the claimed ‘revelation’, to publicly declare the “truth.”
On his mission to prove to the lost that he is the “savior” they require, Inri has been arrested by the police a number of times and is banned from the UK, America, and Venezuela.
- Allan John Miller
Alan John (AJ) Miller was once an IT specialist in Australia before claiming that he was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ.
AJ declares publicly to have vivid memories of his crucifixion but according to him, it was not as “harrowing” as most of us imagine. AJ also claims that his wife, Australian Mary Luck, is Mary Magdalene who is the prostitute whose life was changed following Jesus Christ rescuing her from her persecutors.
AJ leads a cult called the Divine Truth and is wildly spreading and becoming popular not just in Australia but also in other parts of the world. 39-year-old Louise Faver from Britain left her job as a neuroscientist in the UK to go to Australia to live near AJ while George Hamel, another follower, abandoned his family and business in California to forsake his “earthly” life to be near his “savior.”
- Vissarion
Sergei Torop, commonly known as Vissarion, also known as The Christ of Siberia is the founder of the Church of the Last Testament that has at least 5,000 followers many of whom live with him in a number of utopian eco-villages in the Siberian woods.
In the Russian village called Obitel Rassveta meaning “abode of dawn”, Vissarion sits in the living room of a disciple. Vissarion alleges he had a revelation about the time the Soviet Union collapsed that he was Jesus Christ reborn. They’ve built their own schools, churches, and a society. His proclamations have been published in 16 tomes titled The Last Testament.
- Jesus of Kitwe
Jesus of Kitwe is also known as Parent Rock of the World, Mr. Faithful, and Mr. Word of God. He lives in Kitwe, Zambia.
The proclaimed messiah goes by a number of names though his disciples simply call him Jesus. He spends his time driving a cab, spreading the ‘gospel’, and preparing the world for the Kingdom of God.
- Matayoshi Mitsuo of Tokyo
Matayoshi Mitsuo, 73 years of age, is a Japanese politician who contested in several Japanese elections claiming the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
He is not only convinced he is the Almighty God and Jesus Christ but has managed to convince a great following claiming that he will be in charge of the Last Judgment as Christ but in the Japanese political system.
Though he has not won an election, Mitsuo says his first step as saviour will be to take over as Japan’s prime minister. His election campaigns have been marked by his opponents’ claims of voting him in as commit hara-kiri meaning ritual suicide.
- Hernandez
Hernandez an unemployed 21-year-old at the time, in2011, fired 9 shots at the White House in an attempt to kill the then US President Barack Obama.
Hernandez believed he was Jesus Christ and Obama was an anti-Christ he needed to kill. He had earlier told his acquaintances that Obama was controlling people’s minds and had to be stopped as he was going to put tracking devices into children. He went ahead and sent a video to Oprah Winfrey claiming to be Jesus Christ. He is now serving a 25-year term in prison.
- Jehovah Wanyonyi
The Kenyan self-proclaimed god lived in Chemororoch village in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya.
Wanyonyi claimed to be the Almighty God and alleged that Jesus Christ was his son. He considered Mount Elgon which is near his home to be the Mount Zion.
He claimed to be able to cure AIDS and had threatened to punish Kenya if not given three billion shillings. His religion was called “Lost Israelites.”
Wanyonyi died on July 18, 2015, aged 91 years.
- Eliud Wekesa
Wekesa claims God visited him in his sleep and told him he was the messiah people had been waiting for to save mankind. Wekesa, a class Eight dropout is also known as ‘Yesu wa Tongaren’ among his followers and hails from Lukhokwe village, Tongaren constituency in Bungoma County.
His female followers wear long dresses and cover their faces so that they are not termed as unclean as it was in the Jewish tradition. Jewelry such as Earrings, necklaces, and rings are against his commandments too. Men who in his following are not allowed to shave beards since it’s against his will. He quotes Jeremiah 9:25 which nonetheless, say nothing of the kind.
- Jim Jones
Jim Jones, one of the worst infamous cult leaders of all time, led the infamous Peoples’ Church. This fake ‘Messiah’ organized a mass suicide of over 900 brainwashed followers at Jonestown.
His followers were convinced to give up their wealth and even their children. Jones would have sex with most of his followers, which would at times happen on stage in front of the rest of the members. If that is not serious brainwashing then I have no idea what is! It, however, all ended at Jonestown, where he organized a mass suicide, then shot himself, a clear indication he was a serious mental case.
