Gold is still one of the most precious and rarest elements in the world. The element is said to make up approximately 0.003 parts per million of the earth’s crust.

2017, a total of 3,247 tonnes of gold were produced in the world, five tonnes lower than in 2016 and the first drop since 2008 according to stats contained in the GFMS Gold Survey.

China is the top gold producing nation in the world. The country accounts for 13 percent of all the gold mined in the world. In 2017, production of gold in China dropped by 6 percent. The government in China has been trying to fight pollution that often comes as a result of gold mining. China produces approximately 426 tonnes.

The second top gold producer is Australia. Gold production in the country increased by 5 tonnes in 2017 compared to 2016. Gold and other minerals contribute up to about 8 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). The country produces about 295.1 tonnes of gold.

Russia produces around 270.7 tonnes of gold, making it the third top gold producer in the world. About 83 percent of gold in the European comes from Russia. In 2017, the country production increased by 17 more tonnes.

The United States of America produces around 230.0 tonnes of gold. The production rose by 8 tonnes in 2017. The region of Nevada produces 78 percent of gold in the US.
