Five people were injured and one Italian settler kidnapped after a gang of men armed with AK 47 attacked Chakama Trading Centre in Makongeni sub-location in Kilifi County, 80 kilometers west of Malindi town.

The attack happened at 8 pm in what is being treated as a terror attack from the dreaded Al-Shabaab, with reports, if confirmed, will be the latest attack from the terror group after being off the radar for some time now.

According to the National Police Service, those shots were Samini Garama Dadu (23), Ibrahim Said (16), Elias Mwaringa Kathua (12), Mohamed Kalume Konde (10) and Mang Katana Jeffa (20).

“The gang then abducted an Italian lady aged 23 years who is a volunteer of the Africa Milele Onlus, an NGO operating in the area. All the injured persons were taken to hospital and contingents of police officers were deployed to track down the criminals,” said the National Police Service through their official twitter handle.

The police not confirmed whether the attack was from Al-Shabaab. “Neither the reason for the attack nor the identity of the attackers have been established.”

The police are now appealing to the general public in the area to “report promptly to the nearest police officer or police station should they site the criminals with the abducted lady.”
