Google Chrome is by far the most used browser in Kenya accounting for 48 percent of the total web traffic as at October 2018 according to stats released monthly by Stat Counter Global Stats.

When you first turn on a new PC or laptop, you find that your only way to the internet is through Internet Explorer and if you have bought a device running Windows 10, Microsoft’s Edge web browser.

It is the same with an Android or iPhone device. There will be Google Chrome, Safari or another browser.

Despite this, you can always download the browser of your choice depending on your preference using the one on your PC or laptop already, or the play store on your phone or tablet.

Google Chrome has increased its lead over the past couple of months have grown by 2.26 percentage points from 45.74 percent market share in September.

This may have something to do with the changes brought in February 2018 that saw Google by default blocking ads that violate the Coalition for Better Ads standards. That means without your input full-page- and countdown ads, as well as those that auto-play sound and video, will be removed. This should improve the overall user experience and speed up loading time.

Opera web browser follows closely accounting for 40 percent of the total web traffic in Kenya. Firefox comes in third with a share of 7 percent.

The Statistics are however slightly different globally. Chrome is the most preferred web browser with a 61.55 percent market share worldwide. Safari, iPhone’s default web browser, comes in at a far distant second with a total share of 15.13 percent.

Firefox comes in third with a 5.02 percent share followed by the UC browser which recorded a 4.41 percent share.

Opera and IE browsers recorded 3.16 percent and 2.88 percent market share respectively.
