KCPE Results Expected to be Released as Form One Slots to be out By Christmas

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) is set to be released today (Monday) with high expectations for the process to take place on Tuesday.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chairman George Magoha had earlier said that the council had made crucial adjustments to the marking process, and pointed out that the results could be out “much earlier” than last year. KCPE results in 2017 were released on 21st November.

“We must again prepare to receive results early because of what we have done to Insha and Composition,” said Magoha who added that they could even release the results after three days if they so wished.

Professor Magoha was referring to the new marking machines referred to as Optical Mark Recognition (OMR). OMR captures the marked data from the candidates’ answer sheets using specialized scanning. The technology marks up to 10,000 scripts daily in batches of a 100 and 200.

Insha and composition scripts that have already been marked will be scanned through the machine to correctly tally marks and make entries in the shortest time.

OMR, according to Magoha will help to largely cut down the marking process as the manual tallying and entry of Composition and Insha marks was named as the reason for delayed exams release.

Education PS Belio Kipsang added that parents will know form one slots of their children before Christmas. The PS noted that parents would be able to budget time for their children’s needs as they prepare to join form one. Parents and guardians were also urged to take advantage of the long preparation time to prepare their children psychologically.

Kenya National Parents Association official, Nicholas Maiyo, termed the early release of Exam results as news that was welcome amongst all parents. He added that the move would enable parents to plan on their children’s form one expense.

As the 2018 candidates eagerly wait to know their academic performance, Kenyans attention is drawn to the previous KCPE giants as we all wait to see whether they will maintain the momentum.
