Sameer Ranked Best Firm in Financial Reporting in East Africa Again

Sameer Africa has once again been ranked as the best firm in financial reporting in the whole of East Africa.

In an annual event that focuses on increasing accountability, transparency, and integrity among public and private firms, Sameer scooped the top position for the second year in a row.

Sameer Africa is listed in the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and has interests in manufacturing, transport, and agriculture. The firm came in top amongst 503 firms in the 2018 FiRe (excellence in financial reporting) awards. The award saw more than the 456 entries witnessed in 2017 enter this year’s competition.

“Increased participation by the public sector underpins the commitment to more open accountability in the use of public funds and offers the entities an opportunity to be assessed against global standards,” Rwanda’s Auditor-General Obadiah Biraro said in a press statement.

The event was jointly organized by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB), and the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). The event was on its 17^th edition.

Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) came in top in the banking category, CIC Insurance Group (insurance), Kenya Tea Development Holdings Limited (agriculture), Faulu (microfinance), UN Sacco and Kenya Power Pension Fund Defined Contribution in the not-for-profit category.

Sameer Africa remained best in industrial, commercial and services as well as listed firms’ category, thrusting it to the top position in Kenya and East Africa.

NIC Bank scooped the governance category award; Stanbic Bank of Uganda earned itself the Environmental and Social Reporting honors while Stanbic Bank Kenya came in best at integrated reporting.
