10 Happiest Countries in the World, Where is Kenya?

A global ranking report on the World’s happiness has released a list of 156 countries based on their happiness levels while 117 countries have been ranked by the happiness levels of their immigrants.

The World Happiness Report has now been produced for the sixth time and is done annually by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

Finland has claimed the Number 1 spot as 2018’s Most Happiest Country in the 2018 World Happiness Report that was released a few days to the World Happiness Day.

Factors that have been considered to affect a country’s happiness include the health status of its citizens, untreated depression, substance abuse, lack of basic needs, ethnic clashes, terrorism, unemployment, political instability among other calamities.

In the last two decades, the World’s top 10 happiest countries list has been constant and in countries that are not only politically stable but also economically able. It is hence no brainer why the list does not include a single African country as the countries are only known to feature in rankings of Most Unhappy Countries.

The measurement of happiness is referred to as the Cantril Ladder where nationally representative populations value their lives on a scale of 0 to 10, with the worst life valued at 0 and the best at 10.

Countries topping in the ranking frequently have high values for all the six important variables that contribute to overall well-being: income (GDP per capita), healthy life expectancy, social support, freedom, trust (absence of corruption) and generosity. Quality of life is hence a great determiner of a country’s happiness level.

Here are the top 10 happiest countries and how they measure on the Cantril ladder as Denmark, Switzerland, Norway and now, Finland continues to hold top positions as the World’s Happiest countries.
