25 people have suffered serious injuries after the Tahmeed Bus they had boarded heading to Mombasa from Nairobi was involved in a road accident.

The accident on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway at the Miasenyi area, Voi Sub County, Taita-Taveta County occurred after the Tahmeed Bus skidded and overturned leading to critical injuries on the passengers.

“The bus was overlapping another vehicle traveling in the same direction and in the process, the driver lost control. The bus rolled several times injuring 25 passengers,” Voi traffic Base Commander Michael Muriithi confirmed the incident.

The County Police Commandant Halima Abdi informed that the injured victims were undergoing treatment at the Voi County Referral Hospital while others were booked at the St Joseph’s Shelter of Hope hospitals.

Two of the accident victims had their hands amputated according to the Police boss who confirmed the accident.

The Nairobi-Mombasa highway has reported a number of road accidents this year with a majority of the cases occurring in the last week. Overlapping, speeding and generally careless driving have been blamed for a high number of road carnage which has triggered the campaign ‘Ongea!Usinyamaze!’

General Service Unit (GSU) officers attached to Mombasa’s State House were also reported to have suffered serious injuries in a recent accident at Ndii shopping center in Voi.

Miasenyi and Ndii have been marked as black spots in the past and road users have continually been advised to be more alert in areas marked as black spots in the Country.
