Students who sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2018 can now access the Kenya Universities and College Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal and choose their preferred universities and courses.

The launch of KUCCPS for candidates who sat for the 2018 KCSE exams is meant to give them a chance to revise the courses they had already chosen and submitted to the body. It allows them to change based on how they performed while also allowing those who had not chosen universities and courses to do so.

Speaking during the launch, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed disclosed that a total of 90,744 candidates who attained grade C plus in the 2018 KCSE will be admitted to Universities under government sponsorship adding that the selection will be for both public and private universities.

According to the CS, some 651,189 candidates qualified for placement to various universities, colleges, and training institutions.

At the same time, Amina stated that some 121,288 candidates who scored C Plain and C minus are also eligible for diploma courses while those who got grade D and D Plus can apply for certificate courses.

Those who scored E will not be left behind as they are said to qualify to join Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET).

The TVET placement will cater for candidates who sat for KCSE from 2000 onwards.

The CS urged all the students to use the online service to follow up on their admission, apply for placement in different institutions and avoid last minute rush.

The CS announced that the government had enhanced higher education financing by allocating Sh13.5 billion to the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) to support learners this financial year.

Currently, Hleb is funding students in 74 universities and 130 TVET institutions

After the revision, KUCCPS will process the applications on merit, taking into account the students’ performance in the KCSE exam, choices, available capacity and affirmative action for gender, the disabled and candidates from marginalized regions.

KUCCPS is also set to send officers to various institutions in counties from February 11 to 17 to assist learners in making their applications.

The KUCCPS online application will be open until 23 February 2019.
