KCB Foundation, PZ Cussons Boosts 25 Beauticians with Capital and Starter Packs

KCB Foundation and PZ Cussons East Africa on March graduated the first batch of trainees under the program ‘Venus Nywele Ni Mali’ that aims to train and equip 1,000 salon professionals in the next five years.

A total of 25 graduates were graduated and given capital and starter packs to set them off to a good start as they venture into business.

The partnership, which was launched in 2018, is looking to help the participants come up with sustainable businesses in the beauty industry.

According to Jane Mwangi, the KCB Foundation Managing Director noted that Kenya needs concerted efforts channeled towards training and financing the youth to enable them to get into business citing that the beauty and personal care industry is growing exponentially.

“Through this effort, we anticipate that the graduands will become self-employed and also create jobs for their peers,” said Mwangi.

Sekar Ramamoorthy, the Managing Director of PZ Cussons East Africa said that the program seeks to fill in the skills gap for modern hairdressers in Kenya.

The partnership aims to recruit 200 trainees every year within the KCB Foundation 2jiajiri program and it will have beneficiaries training in beauty and personal care.

The trainees, in the program, are taken through a 6-month on-the-job training in beauty, selling skills and entrepreneurship, courtesy of PZ Cussons’ flagship Venus Beauty Brand Programme.

Across the country, over 2,000 out of the over 23,000 beneficiaries of KCB Foundation’s 2jiajiri program have been supported in the beauty and personal care program.

Moreover, KCB Foundation has also partnered with beauty colleges and salons to empower and equip unemployed and out-of-school youth to grow microenterprises in the beauty industry by providing them with technical skills and access to seed capital.
